ALUMINISING MIRROR SERVICE
Often referred to as silvering or resilvering,
we can bring old worn and tarnished mirrors back to former glory.
All the mirrors sent to us for re-aluminising are coated by our
expert staff in our own Coating Department.
This is where we have not one, but six coating plants, ranging from 300mm up
to 1200mm chambers.
All our mirrors are QUARTZ OVERCOATED and this is included
in the quoted price.
EVEN COATING
Our vacuum coating chambers have rotary work
holders, which allow us to rotate your mirror whilst we evaporate the aluminium
and quartz. This means that you have the most even coating available ( some
older plants do not have this facility, and therefore the coating can be thick
in one place, and thin in another).
We advise against trying to remove the old
coating on your mirror yourself, as this can quite easily mark the surface. We
will for a small charge
remove your old coating with a mild acidic solution WITHOUT
harming the polished surface. All mirrors we coat are returned in a special
acid free tissue, which we advise you to keep for storage of your mirror when
not in use
Please protect VERY CAREFULLY the surface to be
coated when sending
a mirror to us for aluminizing or re-aluminising

We offer 5 service levels for
the re-aluminisation of existing customer telescope
mirrors
Includes FREE removal of old
coating before re-aluminising. Price also includes FREE
strip & recoat of associated diagonal secondary mirror. The secondary
mirror must be sent with the primary mirror to qualify for the free service.

We will contact
you once your mirror has been completed. We will then ask you to make payment.
We aim to return your
mirror within 4 weeks of receipt.

Mirrors are ONLY
accepted for aluminizing on condition that we are not held responsible for any
damage or loss to goods whilst in our
care or in transit.
OPTICAL GOODS ARE NOT INSURED FOR TRANSIT OR
WHILST IN THE LABORATORIES.
We therefore advise CUSTOMERS TO SEEK THEIR OWN
INSURANCE.
HINTS FOR CARE
/ CLEANING MIRRORS
Dust is best removed with a fine Camel hair brush.
Grease fingerprints etc, can be removed by washing your mirror with a weak
solution of ‘washing up liquid’
.Please only use B.P.C. COTTON
WOOL for swabbing as all other
materials (even cotton wool) contain man made fibres which can act like ‘wire wool’
to the Aluminised surface.
Rinse
with distilled water and dry immediately with a hair dryer or fan to prevent
water staining.
